Signage Manager has always been good at playing what you told it to play. The release out this week is about screens that update themselves. ## Live app boards Beyond scheduled images and video, a screen can now run live app boards — self-updating information panels that pull from a source and re-render on their own. Notices, feeds, menus and rotating information panels no longer need somebody to export a new image every time something changes. The boards render inside the player rather than as a separate application, so they inherit the same scheduling, the same zone placement and the same recovery behaviour as everything else on the screen. ## A visual zone designer Splitting a screen into regions used to mean editing a layout by hand. There is now a designer for it: drag out zones, drop content into each one, and push the result to a screen or a whole group of them. ## Why the compatibility floor matters Television hardware is not a workstation. The browser engines inside cheap panels are years behind, and a display that white-screens in a shop window is the only failure that really counts. Every app board ships with its own compatibility check, and the player continues to target a deliberately low floor so that a board written today still renders on a screen bought several years ago.
